The DungeonWhere Evil Lurks and Shadows Lie
June 04 Canada Needs Responsible GovernmentAfter the rebellions before the Confederation of the Dominion of Canada, Two stalwart Canadians fought to introduce the concept of responsible government to Canada. That means that the government has to be responsible to the will of the people, not to its own whims. With the conservative government of Stephen Harper we have lost responsible government in Canada. This can be seen in its ruling the country contrary to the will of 70% of the population, and also by the blatant disregard to the Canadian people that is shown by the government.
An example of this blatant disregard can be seen in the economic sabotage perpetrated against the people of Ontario by Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, when he told the world that Ontario was the last possible place to invest. As can be seen by the recent GM announcement of closure of the Oshawa Truck Plant, the world listened, in this case costing over 2000 people their jobs. Since the conservative government came to power over 180,000 people doing skilled industrial work have lost their jobs. The minister will tell you there have been more jobs added to the economy, but most of these new jobs pay minimum wage rather than the lost jobs, many of which payed very well.
The Prime Minister also frequently subverts the democratic process. Part of democracy is having politicians who are responsible to their electorate. Harper has made himself not directly responsible to the people by making members of th media whom he does not like unable to attend his press conferences, causing an atmosphere of fear in the media making the media reluctant to criticize Harper too much out of fear from being not allowed to attend and repport on his press conferences. There is no longer and free and open dialogue in Canada, effectively sabotaging the democratic process.
The Chuck Cadman Affair. Members of the Conservative party, allegedly including Harper's Political Science Professor Tom Flanagan, approached Cadman as he was dying and offered him a million dollar life insurance policy in return for his vote to bring down Paul Martin's Liberal Government. We should know more about this. This is a huge scandal, one that should far overshadow the sponsorship scandal, but the Media pussy-foots around it out of fear of this government. As a result, most of the country knows little about the scandal. The Maxime Bernier mishap is also a huge matter of national security. His girlfriend is known to have been connected to organized crime. The the Bernier left highly classified and top secret files at her house an didn't notice ever! The only reason we know about it is because she returned them after five weeks, and who knows who had access to those files in the mean time.
The Government has also cut out part of the Access to Information System. For a government that campaigned on openness and responsibility they have been anything but. Get a grip Canada. We need a new government.
June 25 Chris Benoit MurderedWhile it has been a few years since I have been a wrestling fan, it was shocking to learn that one of my favourite wrestlers from that time was found dead in his home along with his wife and young son. It is being investigated as a homocide.
It has been a while since I last saw the "Canadian Crippler" lock his "Crippler Crossface" on anyone, but I know he was a good person who was proud to be Canadian. He will be missed by wrestling fans past and present.
![]() June 17 Summer JobThis summer I have been hired on to work at a daycamp. For me this is totally awesome, because it means I get to work with kids, which is great because I want to be a teacher. The worrying bit is that the daycamp manager said no student has ever wanted to come back for a second year... May 05 Team Canada ControverseyI think that it is totally fucked up that the Canadian Parliament decided to hold an inquiry into the naming of Shane Doan as the captain of Team Canada at the World Championships. The Canadian government does not even have a say in the naming of people to the team, so I see no reason why we should have our tax dollars wasted in this stupid vote chasing inquiry. Shane Doan is a good captain and all this shit should have been put to rest 17 months ago when he was cleared of the charges. April 28 Canada Out of Aghanistan? It seems to me that every Canadian political party except the Conservatives want to get the Canadian Forces out of Afghanistan. I completely agree with this. I am morally opposed to participating in a mission that has degenerated into preserving American Imperialism in the middle east. However, last week gave the perfect example of how stupid and hypocritical the NDP are.
Last week the NDP voted with the Conservatives to block a bill that would have forced the government to withdraw from Afghanistan at the end of its current commitment in early 2009. What they claim is that they want the forces to be withdrawn now, not in 2009. Well, this might be a nice talking point for the NDP, it is not going to happen because unlike them, the rest of the opposition parties, even the Bloc, have some idea of what honour entails.
The other parties know that a country like Canada cannot simply walk away from its commitments. We are an important middle power in the world, and if we began shirking our commitments to international alliance systems it would set the wrong example for other countries, and it would also diminish the moral superiority that our proud country maintains. To walk out on the mission would be to sully our national image, and that cannot be allowed to happen.
The NDP does not see this. it has no conception of honour, and it advocates a way that would lead to the diminishment of Canada in the world. Instead of supporting a bill that would have passed with their support, they chose to block it and put forward their own motion that cannot be allowed to pass. because of their ignorance under the leadership of Jack Layton the NDP has opened the possibility of our troops being stationed in Afghanistan fighting an immoral war as long as Harper wishes them too. Because of the NDP's ignorance, and their total lack of foresight and honour, they cannot be allowed to ever win an election.
So when the next election comes around, forget the protest vote, and do Canada a favour. Vote Liberal.
February 16 What is Wrong With People? What is wrong with people? that is the big question i find myself asking all the time. a couple of days ago Bush II called a press conference to rant and rave about Iran (which is only one letter off of Iraq, and actually DOES have weapons of Mass Destruction).
Up north here in Canada our Chief of Defence Staff Rick Hillier called the period under Liberal rule (which we will hopefully return to soon) as the dark ages of the military. What a Conservative Cock.
Gah. I'm too tired to rant. maybe later. January 20 Favourite Quotes Of The Week1.) In the Apocalyptic Science Fiction Lecture the prof. said thi when he was referring to the book of Revelation:

"They said it couldn't be done, and I proved it." January 16 ChangesLife is constantly changing. I don't have time to write much here, and I probably won't have much time for another month or so, but I'll try to write something soon. Cheers. December 30 Saddam Hussein ExecutedThis morning Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was executed by way of hanging. It brings an end to the years of imprisonment and the farce of a trial he was given. But was the execution the right thing to do. Will Iraq heal just because her former leader is dead? I don't think so. I think there will be a massive surge in violence in the next few days and in the weeks and months ahead.
I am not questioning the death penalty. I fully 100% agree with capital punishment, unlike many of my political persuasion (left of centre). I question the use of the death penalty in this case. Hussein, for better or worse, was the sovereign leader of an independent country, and third party nations invaded and used terrorism (because bombing residential areas can't be called anything but) to weed out the populace that does not like the US and Britain, and to depose the rightful leader of the country.
If Hussein is to be held responsible for his crimes (of which I acknowledge there are many) then the leaders of the United States and Great Britain (Bush and Blair) should be held responsible for theirs. Bush, for example, has set up prisons where Muslims are held without charge and tortured and emasculated by the prison guards. this is also a crime against humanity. Without a doubt it is unless you consider Muslims sub-human (if you do you are a fucking bastard. if you do, leave my site now and never, ever, come back).
I am in no way defending the actions of Hussein in his career as a world leader in which he was responsible for the deaths of 254,000 people (numbers from CNN) but I will say that the average Iraqi lived a better life under him than they do under the US puppet government.
Since the US invaded, over 665,000 Iraqi civillians have died through violence. this number is for three years. Saddam's was for 25. I think he had the better record.
And in these times of continuous street violence in Iraq, many Iraqis miss the safety in the streets that Saddam maintained throughout his rule.
Food for thought.
Comments are welcome as always, agree or disagree. December 02 BaiduBaidu has to be the worst search engine ever created. I was looking at my statistics to see where people linked to my site from, and they are all from Baidu. and the searches the people are doing for the most part have absolutely nothing to do with what i wrote about. The engine put together words in the search box, and compiled them from four blogs i wrote months apart. what the hell is that
Baidu is a piece of crap. November 27 Blind Guardian Concert At the Opera HouseWow...
Last night I went to the Blind Guardian show in Toronto at the Opera House. All I can say is that it was amazing. The band Leaves Eyes opened for them and them Blind Guardian came on and fucking rocked.
they played Into the Storm, Nightfall, And Then There Was Silence, This Will Never End, and many many other totally fucking awesome songs.
The only downside to the concert was the fucking idiots who decided that Blind Guardian and Leaves Eyes were bands that they could mosh to. Fucking idiots. they were running full bore into people (like me) who only wanted to watch the show. what the hell. One guy got a shiner in the eye, and i wish that i gave it to him. I threw one of the mother fuckers across the fucking venue to get the fuckers away from me.
Oh...on a cool note, i met the lead guitarist from Leaves Eyes at Pizza Pizza after the show. Blind Guardian Set list was: War of Wrath Into the Storm Born In A Mourning Hall Nightfall Script for My Requiem Fly Bright Eyes Valhalla Majesty (Replaced Welcome to Dying due to the crowd Chanting for Majesty) Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill) Skalds and Shadows This Will Never End And Then There Was Silence Then the Encore Was: Imaginations From the Other Side The Bard's Song (In the Forest) Mirror Mirror November 24 Public GriefI do not see anything wrong with public grief. Whenever there is a child raped/murdered in the City there is a public outpouring of grief and sympathy from the community and even the people who have never met the child. And then some fucking asshole gets on the radio or holds a press conference saying that the people of the city are nothing but grief junkies and should fuck off and pay attention to their own lives. Now, what the fuck is wrong ith public grief? I see no problem with the public grieving the loss of a young life, a young person denied the right to grow up and have a life of their own, a family of their own. No one knows what kind of great deeds they might or might not have done, because their lives were savagely stolen from them. Or they might not have done anything spectacular, they may have just been any other person in society, BUT THAT STILL MAKES THEM IMPORTANT!
MY best example is probably the rape and murder of Holly Jones and the the murder of Cecilia Zhang. After their murders there was massive searches and after they were found dead, massive sympathy and mourning. But then someone (who never actually has anything to do with the families) would come out and call the people who were mourning junkies and insult them. I find these actions atrocious. The losses of these girls, and the other children murdered, are a loss to society as a whole, and society has the right to grieve their loss. The people are not grief junkies, they are ordinary people who mourn the loss of a valuable young person's life, as all children a valuable as the future of the world.
I find it sickening when someone who has no fucking brain insults the people who are mourning the deaths of these children. Both Holly Jones and Cecilia Jones were only eight years old.
![]() October 20 No Time AnymoreI don't have a whole lot of time to myself lately. I go to university, so I have a billion pages of reading to do and I have three papers to write equaling more than 30 pages...
And on top of all this one of my friends died four days ago.
Fuck. October 03 Amish School ShootingI hate to have to do two consecutive blog entries on school shootings, but I think that it is necessary to write about them, if only to bring public awareness to them.
A 32 year old man walked into an Amish Schoolhouse in the USA and divided the boys and girls. he then proceeded to release the boys and some of the adults in the school. He then bound the girls hand and foot with the intention of molesting them (he brought sexual lubricant with him), but the police arrived and tried to negotiate with him, and at this point he began shooting the girls execution style in the head. five girls died, the youngest being only six years old, and five more are still in hospital.
I find school shootings atrocious, but i find the direct targeting of girls and women to be an even worse crime than any assault on males. this may be a horrible thing to say, but i can stomach the loss of men and boys. we've been killing each other since time immemorial, but the murder of women and girls is the worst crime that can be perpetrated.
My thoughts are with the families of the girls who were killed and also with the girls who are still in hospital.
They've left our earthly halls, but they have moved on to the halls of the honoured dead, and we cannot forget the loss of them. September 13 Dawson College ShootingToday at approximately 12:25 PM Eastern at Dawson College in Montreal a gun-man dressed in black entered the College and opened fire at random, killing four people right away and wounding at least thirteen more. Eight of the injured are in critical condition, and the remaining injured are in stable condition. At this point (4:00 PM) the police have announced that the shooter has been “neutralized”, though what that means is not clear at this point whether that means the shooter was killed by the police or committed suicide has not yet been released by the police. A witness to the shootings described the shooter as a white male wearing a trench-coat with lots of metal studs all over his body and a “retarded” hair-cut. The Student Union from Concordia University has opened its doors to the students from Dawson College, and says that those students are welcome to come and get food, drink, and professional help if they need it.
This was bound to happen to us here in Canada again. It has been a long time since we had a school shooting (at L’ecole Polytechnique), and it was a certain eventuality that it would happen again. That doesn’t make it any less horrifying for anyone. I know people who go to university in Montreal, and I find it distressing that this has occurred. And I am also a University student in Toronto, and I can imagine the hell that the students at Dawson have gone through today. I find it dismaying that even in Canada this kind of hellish occurrence could happen. I know it sound naïve to say that I wouldn’t expect this kind of thing in Canada, but our society is different from that of the US. And I know I seem to be contradicting myself, first saying that it was bound to happen again, and then saying that I wouldn’t expect it in Canada, but that is how I see it. I can’t help trying to see the best in Canada, especially our culture.
Again, I am deeply disturbed by this recent turn of events. I do not like learning that some people my age have been savagely, senselessly murdered. I do not like having people die for nothing. It is extremely unfortunate that the four people have been killed. My thoughts are with the families of those killed, and with those who are injured and their families.
4:40 PM During a couple of news conferences this is the new information that I have received. The first suspect in the crime died “during the intervention of the first officers on the scene.” Based on the current information, the police have confirmed that the suspect was shot and killed by the police. So far there is no information to indicate racism or terrorism in the crime. The police will not confirm or deny any further suspects.
8:20 PM In the ensuing time since I wrote this earlier today as I watched the news, more information has come out. Due to this fact, I am including an MSN Today Link for the new information
Update: There is only Two dead. The Shooter, Kimveer, and an 18-year old girl, Anastasia de Sousa, known to her friends and family as the Pink Angel. August 23 At WorkI am finally working somewhere air-conditioned!!!
I'm inside at the CNE in Toronto. I work an info booth.
So much shit is going onin the world these days that I can't keep up and work at the same time. At least the world didn't end yesterday as some people thought it would. August 03 Such a PainIs it just me, or is anyone else finding this new space format a pain in the ass?
I'm sure that in the long run I will become accustomed to this format, but for now I miss the old MSN spaces format which I still prefer over the Live spaces format. Plus I've had almost no hits since the formats changed, so I'm guessing that others are having the same difficulties I am.
A lot has been happening in the last few weeks, and I've been fairly tardy in my blogging (mostly due to my frustration with the service, which i now realize was the result of the spaces changeover to Live) and I have not really been constant in my coverage as I usually am.
As people may have gleaned from previous entries, I do not support Israel in this conflict in the Middle East. I feel, and have felt from the beginning, that Israel would commit horrible atrocities in this conflict, and they have. The bombing of Qana killed almost sixty civillians, more than thirty of those civillians were children. Also, the bombing of the UN observer post in southern Lebanon is a war crime. The Israeli's were aware of the UN post, and were warned over ten times by the observers not to fire on the post, yet the Israeli's continued to fire on the post, and murdered the four UN observers in the post.
In other news, another Canadian soldier was killed today in Afghanistan as a roadside bomb exploded near his armoured vehicle. Also, a slain Canadian soldier was lain to rest yesterday in Montreal, and another service is occuring today. July 27 What The...?Is anyone else having troubles with MSN Spaces?
I've been having one hell of a time logging in and going to other people's sites.
I can rarely get to people's sites, and when i get there I cannot comment because of some stupid "errors".
What the hell? July 26 I'm BackHello people, I have returned. I got back from my trip on Saturday, but since then I've been busy with socializing (strangely enough) and looking for a job (which I achieved today. I'll be working at the CNE).
In the news lately has been the conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
I'm going to say right off that I believe that Israel is in the wrong in this situation, and that Israel should be punished by the international community, not receiving the support that it is getting from the US.
Yesterday the Israelis bombed the UN Security post in Lebanon, killing four UN Peacekeepers, one of whom was a Canadian. The Israelis knew what the building was, yet they intentionally scored a direct hit on the building. for this reason alone Canada should declare itself against Israel. But no. our PM is butt-fucking President Bush, and Bush supports Israel so Canada does too. I really hate what Israel is doing. they have already murdered several Canadian children who were in Lebanon with their families, and several adults have been killed too.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Israel should not exist. The land was stolen, and the Israelis are the instigators of conflict in the area, causing constant conflict in the area and making it unstable.
Israel sucks. July 14 Going Camping/FishingWell, I'm going camping for a week, so I won't be posting anything at least until I come back next saturday (the 22nd). I'm Going up to Haliburton, and going on a canoe trip/camp type thing. See ya all in a week!
July 13 Israel: A Grievous Mistake? This was a comment I made on Matthewgood.org regarding one of his entries. I thought it would make a good entry here.
I think that a grievous error occurred 58 years ago with the mandate that created Israel. I don't think that ownership a millenia or more before gives anyone the right to land again, and I think that despite the horrible events that the Jews had to weather during the Holocaust they should not have been given the land where Israel is now by the British.
I'm not saying that the Holocaust was anything less that a genocide, and Hitler and his Nazis are rotting in hell for it I'm sure, but the Palestinians who were on the land should not have been forcibly removed, as it was there land then. I understand that historically there has been a lot of conflict between Jews and Muslims, as Mohammad, the Islamic Prophet, had conflict with Jews. But I think that all these years later that those differences should be forgiven. I think that the Israeli government is playing on old hatred in their invasions of Muslim countries. I think this could create a huge problem, as if Iran gets involved with this war, the USA will ride to the defence of Israel, and other countries will take sides, and we will have a massive war on our hands. Israels attacks have already killed many women and children, and they started this war that is fuelled on hatred, all supposedly for Gilad. But I think he just gave them an excuse. I think we may have a holy war on our hands. *Note*
Rob: I am neither a racist nor an anti-semite. Do not insult me. Rob: I'm still not seeing a return address that I can give you answers on.
Commenting=Good
Update:
Thanks Stephen. You are correct.
I am not a stupid person Rob. I formulated my opinions before I started reading the Mblog, and I agree with MG on this point, I disagree with him on the topics of Abortion, Capital Punishment, and other topics. July 11 For Anthony BonecaI'm re-posting this from Matthewgood.org
The following was sent to me(Matthew Good) by Ian Benninghaus, who asked me to post it… On Sunday, as I’m sure many of you are aware, Canadian Cpl. Anthony Joseph Boneca was killed in action in Afghanistan. I grew up five doors down from Tony and knew him my whole life. Recent headlines on the news report that Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor is dismissing reports that morale is suffering and that Anthony was becoming “disillusioned” with his involvement in the conflict. Anthony was young. He was only six years younger than myself and I think it’s impossible to assume that someone of that age cannot be mislead into believing something that they would later come to second guess. Over the past few months, Anthony kept in close contact with his family and friends, constantly conveying his desire to return home. Maybe Anthony was beginning to have some second thoughts on his involvement in this stupid war. Maybe he was beginning to realize that he had a whole other life ahead of him. His family, his girlfriend, his entire life was ahead of him. I came to that realization a while ago, now I’m getting married in September and there are so many things that I cannot wait to do. Maybe Anthony felt the same. He may have realized that there are other ways he could make a difference and that fighting a war was not for him. If he wanted out, he wanted out. After seeing the sights that he must have seen, the carnage and destruction of a war torn country, maybe Anthony realized there was more to life than just death. I’m going to attend Anthony’s funeral. Not because I knew him all that well, but because I can respect what he went over there to do and I can respect the fact that maybe he changed his mind about it. I drove by his parent’s house earlier. I added a flower to the pile. Rest in Peace Anthony July 06 USA Still Behind Canada in Social JusticeCanada has once again shown itself to be ahead of the United Stated when it comes to Social Justice. The highest court in New York State ruled that banning gay marriage did not violate the constitution, saying that the matter needs to be addressed by the legislature, not the courts. The court also said that it is best if children were raised with a mother and a father, not two mothers or two fathers. This is coming from one of the more liberal American States, showing that in general the US is still very backward when it come to human rights. This shows how hypocritical the US is in their actions around the world, where they claim to be spreading human rights, but maybe they should take a look back home before they make judgments on other countries. I strongly believe in the rights of gays and lesbians to marry, as I believe that it is a fundamental human right to choose who you want to marry, and I believe that that principle should be applied regardless of the genders of the two people who are seeking marriage.
July 05 You Can Hear the CricketsPortugal has been ELIMINATED from the World Cup!
YES!!!!
I live near Dufferin Street in Toronto, and every time Portugal wins I don't get to sleep because the idiot soccer hooligans are driving down Dufferin honking their horns all night. but I get to sleep now, because the porkers have been eliminated. =D
This is a very happy day.
Now I can only hope that the French beat Italy on Sunday, as there are a lot of loud Italians around here too...and not that many French. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
